Wearable Technology Fashion Shows (1999-2001)
While at Charmed Technology, I was an associate producer on a team developing fashion shows which showcased wearable computing technology from a variety of electronics companies and research groups. These productions were inspired by a fashion show which took place at the MIT Media Lab as part of the First International Symposium on Wearable Computing (ISWC) in 1997.
From September 1999-December 2000 the team created approximately 100 productions which took place at Internet trade shows in New York City, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tel Aviv, Los Angeles, Beijing, London, Berlin, Sydney, Seoul, Chicago, Stockholm, and Paris.
The shows were a major success generating an enormous amount of international press attention. As a result, wearable technology fashion shows have become a popular method of introducing new products and prototypes at electronics trade shows around the world.
The shows are described in Susan Ryan’s 2014 book Garments of Paradise: Wearable Discourse in the Digital Age.
